Adobe 1, Limbaugh 0

Posted by Goo Man on February 18, 2009

Media Matters reports that on a recent broadcast, blabber mouth and drug abuser, Rush Limbaugh, stated the Democrats,

“…have reformatted the bill — they’ve made it a PDF file when they posted it. Now, for those of you that don’t use computers, basically what that means is that it cannot be keyword searched. A PDF file is essentially a picture of a page. And, so, you can read every page, but you cannot keyword search it. It’s not a text file as legislation normally is as posted on these public websites. They don’t want anybody knowing what’s in this; they want it happening as fast as possible so nobody can know what’s in it.

As Media Matters shows, one can search the PDF file by clicking on a button named SEARCH, and alternatively, by navigating to EDIT>FIND. Crazy!

I submit, as another alternative, one can discover what’s in the bill by reading it. Glide your vision, using your eyeballs, left to right across the line. When you get to the end, scan back to the left, drop down a line and repeat. If your oxycodone abuse is causing dimness in your vision due to miosis, turn on an extra lamp.

That Crazy Gingrich

Posted by Goo Man on September 8, 2008

Ed Brayton has a post where he includes a video showing Newt Gingrich speaking on “protecting marriage.”

He doesn’t want same sex couples to marry. He wants only straight people to be able to marry, cheat on their spouses, hand divorce papers to a spouse while they are recovering from cancer surgery, remarry, cheat on 2nd spouse, marry a 3rd time. Or something like that.

From Brayton:

Newt, if you want to protect marriage, stop getting married. At the very last, stop cheating on every wife you have.

Be Careful What You Ask For

Posted by Goo Man on August 27, 2008

You may have heard that Stuart Shepard, from Focus On Family, asked his peeps to pray for rain on the day of the DNC.  He wanted god or jeebus or whomever to rain out Obama’s speech because Stu Stu doesn’t like our next Presidents stand on abortion and gay marriage.

Welp, great job godboy.  You did get a little rain.  The Fox News skybox in Denver was flooded by the sprinkler system. Awesome!

And as if that wasn’t enough, Climate Progress reports a major hurricane may be heading to New Orleans just in time for the repub convention. Your god sure does work in mysterious ways, asshole.

And I love Keith Olbermann sometimes.

Louisiana Needs Help

Posted by Goo Man on June 19, 2008

The LA Coalition of Science needs your help in persuading the governor of LA, Bobby Jindal, to oppose SB 733.

Barbara Forrest states the following:

We in the LA Coalition for Science have reached the point at which the only possible measure we have left is to raise an outcry from around the country that Gov. Jindal has to hear. What is happening in Louisiana has national implications, much to the delight of the Discovery Institute, which is blogging the daylights out of the Louisiana situation.

SB 733, the LA Science Education Act, has passed both houses of the legislature, and the governor has indicated that he intends to sign it. But we don’t have to be quiet about this. There is something that you and everyone else you know who wants to help can do:

The LA Coalition for Science has posted a press release and an open letter to Jindal asking him to veto the bill. The contact information is at the LCFS website.

It is time for a groundswell of contacts to Jindal, and this must be done immediately since we don’t know when he will sign the bill. The vote in the legislature is veto-proof, so any request for Jindal to veto the bill must stress that the governor can make this veto stick if he wants it to stick. Please contact everyone you know and ask them to contact the governor’s office and ask him to veto the bill. Please blog this. If you have friendly contacts in your address book, please ask them to also contact the governor’s office.

We want people all over the country to do this, as many as possible, since Louisiana will be only the beginning. Their states could be next. Here are the talking points:

Point 1: The Louisiana law, SB 733, the LA Science Education Act, has national implications. So far, this legislation has failed in every other state where it was proposed, except in Michigan, where it remains in committee. By passing SB 733, Louisiana has set a dangerous precedent that will benefit the Discovery Institute by helping them to advance their strategy to get intelligent design creationism into public schools. Louisiana is only the beginning. Other states will now be encouraged to pass such legislation, and the Discovery Institute has already said that they will continue their push to get such legislation passed.

Point 2: Since Gov. Jindal’s support for teaching ID clearly helped to get this bill passed in the first place, his decision to veto it will stick if he lets the legislature know that he wants it to stick.

Point 3: Simply allowing the bill to become law without his signature, which is one of the governor’s options, does not absolve him of the responsibility for protecting the public school science classes of Louisiana. He must veto the bill to show that he is serious about improving Louisiana by improving education. Anything less than a veto means that the governor is giving a green light to creationists to undermine the education of Louisiana children.

You can pull additional talking points from the LCFS press release and our online letter if you want them.

Now we have to get the message out to people. People can contact the governor and and also contact their friends, asking them to do the same. We need to create a huge network of e-mails asking people to do this. Where they live does not matter at this point. What is happening in Louisiana has implications for everyone in the nation. The Discovery Institute does not intend to stop with the Pelican State.

You can help by contacting Jindal at 225-342-7015 or 866-366-1121 (Toll Free)or faxing him at 225-342-7099. Please urge him to exorcise this piece of legislation. We need people from all over the country to contact Jindal as this legislation is harmful to not only the students in Louisiana, but all over the US.

Behold! The Newest Threat To America!

Posted by Goo Man on June 18, 2008

Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon:  Destroyers of America!

Well that’s what some commenters on this recent CNN iReport think.

I’m nearly continuously surprised how bass-ackward some people in this country are.  One of the more prevalent comments I read was how xtian school children are “forced” to learn tolerance for gays and lesbians, but when the poor persecuted xtian wants to pray in school, they are not allowed.

Where do I start?  Let’s start with the persecution complex.  How does a member of the biggest religious group in this country, who has more opportunity to publicly flaunt their beliefs, who holy days are more prominent in every aspect of US culture, feel “oppressed”?

Secondly, there can be private prayer in school.  No one is forcing little Timmy NOT to pray silently during recess, study hall, lunch or home room.  There is plenty of time to pray in school.  The problem comes when students are forced by the school to pray a certain way.

And how is compulsory attendance to a class on tolerance of gays and lesbians the same as compulsory prayer?  The correct analogy would be compulsory attendance to a class on tolerance of god whisperers.  A religious tolerance class, if you will, which educates children on the myths of all kinds of religion.

Forcing non xtian kids to pray to a xtian god is comparable to forcing non gay kids to have sex with children from their own gender.  And do we see that happening?  No.  There is a difference between tolerating an act or idea that is not your own, and being forced to participate in it.

So, until lil Adam comes home telling you that Mr. Crandle forced him to anally violate his best bud, Ricky, the xtian community has nothing to complain about.
